Gasline Safety- rust and exposed pipes
Is there a trick to easily placing down the new floor panel? it feels like the bubbled out metal behind the prefab kind of catches it and I’m afraid to force it
Explain what you mean by taking the mortar joints back at least an inch. How do you go about doing so? Shouldn’t this step be demonstrated in the clip? :)
He did say it you take a 6 inch grinder and put a diamond blade on it the you grind the joints back
Chris just barely holding it together the whole entire time in such a way that I'm actually proud of him for getting through it.
What state are u in
Is there a damper you can put on a woodstove pipe to keep the cold out of the house?
Great tutorial except for one thing... It looks like crap! One should expect to be a little more esthetic with the brick face pattern than just slapping up cut panels, depending if you care how the finished product looks.
I know this is an old video, but 2 things bothered me about it. One, why didn't you remove the log holder in the first place since you know you're replacing it and it was in the way of trying to remove the panels? Two, why didn't you cut the back panel to be at least symmetrical? The way it's cut, I wouldn't be happy paying a professional to just have it cut and left like that. Doesn't look good.
Do you need a burner pan?
I live in an old house that has a "fireplace". It was originally set up to hold a gas stove I believe and not act as a full on fireplace. It has a flu and has brick surround. I do not believe the flooring is fire rated. per a chimney sweep. Do you think it would be safe to use a ventless set up for this fireplace? vent closed or open?
Excellent job! Best video on RUclips for fireplace repair.
Thank you for the video. Does a stainless steel chimney also need chimney sweeping?
I feel like they should do comedy, all they need is the same attitude and just be selling a fake weird product.
How do I put that piece back on that has the model number plate on it? I took it off 6 months ago and now I forget how to put it back on, thank you.
I look at these products and see an inexpensive purchase. I go to buy and it's right around $300. I don't understand why they are so expensive.
Excellent.
Hi there! I'm so thankful I came across your video tonight. Do you have a shop in or close to Montreal (Canada)? My fireplace has exactly the problem you solved in your video. I called a few companies to try get the refractory block panel changed, but they all want to sell a new complete fireplace box and chimney to me for between $12 - 15,000 when all the box needs are the refractory block panels. I always had a strong feeling I don't need to put all the money they are asking for on getting my fireplace working again. I will be so happy if you aren't far from my location to change just the panels. Please let me know. Thanks and have a nice day
he drilled so deep in the bricks lmao
I recently had my cap replaced and they used 26 guage galvanized which I understand is thinner than recommended. I live in hot humid rainy South Florida, so I expect this may rust through after only a few years. Has anyone here ever painted one to make it last longer in hot climate? I'm considering it but thinking the very hot temperatures on metal might make the paint peel and bubble making things worse. Any advice would be appreciated.
Do u actually do any work lmao
I see some models of ventless fire places offer a circulating fan. Will this give you more heat (BTU/Hour) than a ventless fireplace without the circulating fan installed?
Useless for me looking to take out the bottom panel
thanks, it's something I need to do soon. Please wear breathing protection, no dust is good for you but fireproof stuff always seems particularly irritating.
You guys have helped me just light my fireplace omg only ones to do it THANK YOU THANK YOU for this detailed walk through 😊😊😊
I needed to know how to remove the bottom slab, but for me the other info was great. I'll be purchasing fire bricks pre-cut lol
Well thank you. Some of this was helpful. But why not show work? and How to cure the mortar? You said warm fire, how warm and how long?
Agreed! The Rutland Company site has how-to videos that clearly demonstrate and show the process along with very detailed instructions.
Maybe you should learn how to do a correct chimney re-flashing.
I am trying to find out if my firebox can be repaired. It is all metal except for the bottom which is firebrick. A masonry guy replaced the firebrick on the bottom but told me, "it should be safe enough for a fire. Another fireplace company told me I'd have to have the firebox lined with stainless steel and buy an insert. The original metal box has gaps at the seams between a quarter to two inches of gap. I can see insulation type material through the gaps. I know this is old, but can a metal firebox be repaired? The alternative I was told will cost over $7k. Thank you, as I am having trouble finding info on metal fireboxes. Also, the chimney has been repaired, built higher (code) with new flue and cap ($5k). I just purchased this home in June and don't have any history on the fireplace other than it leaked.
I am also looking for this info. Just bought a house and don’t have the house history issue. Hoping there will be a response.
Would of been great if you showed the process of repairing it
No it isn't the right product for the job it is a temporary bandaid that will fail in a few years.
Informative thanks, also love the name Chimnee Cricket love it lol
The best part of the video is when we hear the siren and they are trying to talk over it. Very professional.
Next. 🙄
We can't see it because of the flash light, light .😐
Bravery is working in the fireplace industry while wearing white. Being skilled in your trade is working in the fireplace industry while wearing white. Thanks for the tips guys!
thanks guys
thanks
Thank you, you guys are awesome!! Is there a link where we can buy the refractory panel from you guys?
I have lived in this house for 7 years and have not been able to find out the source of the STINK outside my house until NOW!! I had no clue this thing existed!! I thought it was an underground pipe that was broken. Thank you!!!!!
Thanks for the tip.
When the lower level of my home was finished the contractor put in a gas fireplace and log set, however, it was installed without a vent. Can't use it, as when lit gives off a terrible and I assume toxic smell. Can I convert this gad fireplace to ventless without replacing the firebox. Is it the log that create the toxic smell or the gas itself as it has no vent?
carbon monoxide kills. If you're still alive. Install a chimney so it vents the fireplace. Or replace fireplace with an electric model
Why did i see this AFTER I just paid for a crappy grout job??
Aren’t barometric dampers a big no no on wood stoves? They can open you and feed a chimney fire plenty of air....
Good instructions, thanks guys.
Ahhh.... the close caption text block your video to see what you did . Js
I have that kind In my house lol
Can i make this set up outside without a indoor fireplace? Homemade would like, not expensive. Thanks guys!!
I just realized by comments that you have to have a gas line. So i should buy a propane hookup?
I would recommend wearing a mask during the cutting. What is the material made of? Check MSDS.
What are the metal awning things called you screw in to the top of the firebox n it connects to the round exhausts pipe. For wood burning
Those kind of fireplaces are not efficient its good for low 40s but not good for alaska.
Oo
